Cryotherapy at Jon Ric involves exposing the body to ultra-low temperatures within a chamber or sauna pumped full of liquid nitrogen. This activates the body’s nervous, immune and endocrine systems to promote therapeutic results.
A history of cryotherapy?
A tried-and-true technique, cryotherapy has been around for decades. It was first developed by a Japanese doctor over 40 years ago to aid in rheumatoid arthritis treatment. From there, it became a go-to approach for athletes who appreciated its efficiency when compared to traditional ice baths. In the U.S., it’s become increasingly popular in the past decade as a restorative treatment capable of enhancing overall health and wellness.
Our cryotherapy is an incredible treatment capable of equally incredible benefits.
It has the potential to enhance virtually every facet of our clients’ lives – improving health, wellness, fitness and more. When administered correctly, cryotherapy can:
- Provide relief from the pain associated with certain medical issues, including joint disorders and rheumatoid diseases
- Relieve depression, anxiety, chronic fatigue, sleeping difficulties, migraines and stress
- Boost the immune system and increase the body’s defenses against colds and the flu
- Reduce muscle inflammation, pain and swelling
- Encourage a faster recovery from training and injuries
- Increase energy levels and promote a faster metabolism
- Reduce cellulite, improve acne and minimize psoriasis
- Visibly enhance the skin and reduce telltale signs of aging
What to expect during cryotherapy at Jon’Ric
When you arrive at Jon’Ric Austin for your first cryotherapy appointment, we will guide you to our locker rooms where you will be instructed to remove all jewelry and change into a pair of cotton or wool socks, gloves, earmuffs and a robe. Beneath the robe, you will need to wear a bathing suit or undergarments.
To begin your session, you will remove your robe, put on a face mask and step into the nitrogen-cooled chamber or sauna for one to three minutes to lower the temperature of your skin. This process activates your body’s central nervous system and releases endorphins. The cold air involved in this treatment doesn’t contain any moisture and there’s no air flow, so it won’t be alarmingly cold. You may feel a pins and needles sensation towards the end of the session, but it should subside
fairly quickly. Once you leave the chamber or sauna, your body will re-heat itself, promoting a new supply of oxygenated blood and encouraging cellular regeneration.
A few of your cryotherapy results should be apparent right away. Many of our clients feel invigorated and energized after their treatment and enjoy an instant improvement in their pain levels and flexibility. However, weight loss benefits, cellulite reduction and skin texture changes will take a bit longer to emerge and tend to require a series of treatments for optimal results.
Are you a candidate?
Cryotherapy is a terrific treatment approach for many men and women – but it’s not for everyone. If you have heart disease, acute kidney disease, severe anemia or uncontrolled seizures, you will not be considered a candidate. In addition, clients who are pregnant or have open wounds cannot receive cryotherapy.
Is cryotherapy safe?
Yes, cryotherapy is extremely safe. We only offer the most advanced saunas and chambers available at our medspa The liquid nitrogen never comes into contact with your skin, and there is an oxygen monitor present at all times to ensure that you can breathe comfortably and normally throughout your treatment experience.
