People of all skin types and colors are at risk for age spots. However, they are most common in individuals with very light complexions. A true age spot is:
- A flat, oval area
- Tan, brown or black
- On areas of the skin that are regularly exposed to the sun
If your spot becomes darker, grows larger, has an irregular border or is accompanied by itchiness, redness, tenderness and bleeding, it's a good idea to have it evaluated by a doctor to make sure it isn't something more serious.
